Hi everyone,

Hope First Years and Mentors alike are settling in well to the new semester and have recovered from the post-Christmas food coma! Although we're in a new semester, it's important to ensure the Mentoring programme is not forgotten. Mentors are still there should First Years have queries or concerns, or simply need someone to meet for a chat. We are in the process of compiling feedback which was received from both groups over the past few months about the programme, and will be communicating with you all over the course of the next few weeks.

The College is hosting its second set of clubs and societies days this week. The socs and volunteering day is on the Wednesday the 14th in the Baile Allen Hall and clubs day takes place on Thursday the 15th in the Kingfisher from 10am-5pm. Volunteering or joining a club or society is a great way to meet new people, to get fit and active and is also a great way to enhance your CV, so if you get the opportunity go have a look and see is there anything that may interest you.

Firstly, well done on getting through your 1st of what shall be hopefully many, seismesters here at NUIG.

However this sense of achievement is probly being drowned out by the sense of "Oh dear god, these exams." However all is not lost, like the Leaving Cert, these exams seems unachieveable and vastly scarey, when in fact they are not.

I thought I'd give you a few hints and tips that helped me last year.

1) Check your Continuous Assestment grade, this can be extremely calming realising that you've got a fair chunk of the marks already in the bag, suddenly the exam isn't so daunting!

Stressless Exams

Hey everybody,

Exams are stress, pure hot, nasty stress! But it may not be so. This is for students who, shall we say, have not been regulars in college during semester 1 and especially if you have a lot of catching up to do. I say empatically, start now. If you have not been going into lectures, start now, i cannot STRESS how much exam info and hint-hints are given in these final weeks of lectures. Its never too late to start studing for modules, trust me, even if you have been taking it easy the last few weeks...or months.

Study week is fast approaching and you may be asking yourself where semester one has gone, don’t worry we all are. These last two weeks of term can be draining and hard but it can be done. The most important bit of advice a lecturer gave me in first was to be organised with your notes and take one day at a time especially when it comes to the exams. So here are a few tips on getting assignments finished and really getting down to study.

A good night sleep is essential – that doesn’t mean staying in bed all day!

Try and eat healthy – I struggle with this at times when it comes to being busy

Free food and banter? That's exactly what to expect from tomorrow! Of course you can't forget the music,,, so come to the college bar tomorrow night (18th November) between 8pm to 10pm. Whether you're on a study break, just want to chill or want to meet your mentors to catch up with any queries you have, take the time to swing by.

We all know the pressure exams can put on us and ensuring you take time for yourself is essential. This week is Mental Health week, and I think this week you should be aware of how well you mind your mental state and prepare yourself for the exam period to come.

No matter what happens this month, at least you're not a turkey!

Hi guys,
Week 11 is upon us, where the hell is the semester disappearing to! I trust you are all knee deep in essays by now and that you are all now spending at least as much time in the library as you are in Karma! I know a lot of you may be very stressed about the upcoming exams, I remember how stress I was myself back in first year but as long as you are keeping on top of your assignments and starting to go through your notes you'll be fine.
